Team Medical Dragon Iryu 3 Set to October Release

It has been confirmed that the third season of the most popular medical Japanese drama ‘Iryu’ aka ‘Team Medical Dragon’ will be aired starting in October through Fuji TV. The drama will star again Kenji Sakaguchi as a brilliant surgeon as well as the other previously cast members  Teppei Koike, Sadao Abe, Tetsuhiro Ikeda, Kuranosuke Sasaki, Mari Natsuki, and Ittoku Kishibe.

The drama based on the manga of the same name by Akira Nagai and Taro Nogizaka will broadcast in Thursday 10:00pm time slot, the same slot as the two previous seasons. The first season in 2006 recorded an average rating of 14.8% with a peak of 17.2%. Meanwhile the second series aired one year later, achieved an average of 17.2% with a highest of 21.0%.

Besides its previous cast members, the new season also adds Izumi Inamori who only appeared in the first season, Endo Kenichi as an internist who becomes Sakaguchi’s rival doctor, and Tanimura Mitsuki as a new medical assistant.

Iryu 3’ will center around the “internationalization of medical care” and how surgeons have to deal with the rapid development of robots for surgical operations. With the new theme, it’s expected to attract more viewers this year.
